Rhythms of Life

Just like in music, part of the rhythm of life includes the rests. A rest in music is the time (or times) where a silence or a pause in the active singing or playing of a note occurs.

This spring I came to a rest of sorts…I did not actually stop doing everything, but I took a break from my usual routine. It gave me time to welcome new family, take a great adventure, and travel.  The rest provided me with new experiences, influences, images, and perspectives. As summer ended, I had reflected, regrouped, and was ready for new goals, projects, and a new regular routine.

As an artist, I gathered many ideas, inspirations, and influences for many new designs and goals. Everyday there is work being done in the studio to prepare for a new exhibit…(more about that later)! I am creating several new pieces, each in various stages of the creative process~~

So the notes are being played again, the rest was in an earlier measure.

Now the music I am playing is greatly enhanced ~~such are the Rhythms of Life.

**What are your rests in the rhythm of your work and life? What gives you that forward movement towards your plans and goals?

I will be posting new art regularly on my blog and in the website gallery as pieces are finished!! Thanks for your Visit…

In the Studio…Winter Series

In the studio…It is still winter here and I am longing for colorful spring flowers and warmer days!

Two new pieces from my Wintertime series are finished:

Santa’s Night-time Trek

…Inspired by an ornament, its shape was cut from several printed fabrics and layered. Thread-painting was used to accent the details. Free-motion quilting was done to add dimension and movement, helping Santa soar upwards through the sky!

The same ornament shape was used in this piece. Using a faced-appilque technique the shapes were stacked to form a 3-D effect. A wren on the fabric print is the focus. It is accented by thread and beads. Dense-stitch quilting was used on the background to add more depth and texture.

The third piece, **Swishing Down the Hill…On a Winter Day! Wheeee***, is a work-in-progress!

Guess I better finish it quickly…before the snow melts!

It is still a magical time for me…that time when the first snowflakes begin to fall.

Each one silently floats to the earth until a thin covering of white touches the ground, the porch, and the trees…As if someone was sifting powdered sugar over the earth.

The lines of the outdoors becomes visible with the sugary coating…the tree limbs, the bushes, the cars, and the old bicycle behind the shed.

While the indoors feels warm and cozy…a safe haven from the elements.

It is a time of quiet, of reflection, of contentment…a time of being home.

***What gives you a time of reflection, which in turn feeds your art…or your life in general?***
