The Wonders of Silk

This past summer, I was able to revisit a shop, Ginny’s Fine Fabrics, which I’d discovered for the first time more than 10 years ago. The shop is filled with an amazing array of beautiful, very fine fabrics and notions from all over the World~~

~brightly colored, soft cotton prints from London…

~~nubby, rich colored,thick wool…

~~~& vividly colored, wonderful 100% silks from places such as Italy.
It reminds me of a fine fabric shop like one might find in New York or Paris!
I remembered and dreamed about the painterly, fantastically-colored printed silks on long tubes, filling large barrels, since that first visit! So finally this year, I purchased a half yard of the most beautifully colored Italian silk, whose print looks like an Impressionistic watercolor painting!
I’ve enjoyed using 100% silk thread to hand-roll the edges to create a hand-rolled edge silk scarf..The fabric and thread both have a wonderful soft texture, making it great to work with!
This is the type of material that inspires designers to create beautiful garments! And, reminds me of the stories in history when fine fabrics & textiles were considered part of a family’s wealth…
Being a natural fabric made from the spun fibers of silkworms, silk takes on dyes in a manner that creates a unique hand, or texture, to the cloth and vivid, shimmery colors! This piece of fabric is an exquisite 100% Italian silk that is just beautiful…
I look forward to the pleasure of wearing this scarf!
If you love it as much as I do, I hand-rolled the edges of a second scarf made from this wonderful silk~~
It is now available in my studio’s on-line Shop!  🙂
(Use Code:SILK at check-out for Free-Shipping through February 29th!)
Hope it finds someone who will love it as much as I do!
A Milestone ~ Internet’s Scope, Global Reach, and Social Change
A blog milestone has been reached this month–ending the first year with over 4,000 views on my site!!  Wow, it is difficult to believe how many people have visited and viewed my writing, ideas, art, and inspirations this past year.
The impact of the internet still amazes me with its scope, global reach, and social change.
  • The unlimited scope of the internet is unique. In my experience teaching, school classes are never large…when writing, articles may have a limited audience…and when publishing, time is slower. Blogs are a creative outlet for writers, photographers, and artists and a new way of social connection for many people. The creativity shared daily in blogs is quite fun to witness! And, there is an unlimited number of possible readers.
  • The changes due to technology in the recent past years have been international with a global reach. Readers to Lifeweavings this year have been from more than 70 different countries!  Blog viewers may be in the US or from around the world. The international reach of social media has seemed to shrink our world, making connection and communication instantaneous. This technology will continue to influence change around the globe.
  • Social change is always difficult to predict. With the internet as with all inventions–some changes were predicted, others were not. Who knew what the impact would be on family interaction and social relationships? Who knew how instant communication could influence changes in a classroom, or a country? While some things are very slow to change, it has been an interesting time to live and witness the rapid speed people have embraced new technological innovations.
So, during the second year of this blog, it will be interesting to see what changes I make in my own direction, to continue to explore other blogs, and to adjust to the rapid changes in technology…and the internet with its scope, global reach, and social change.
To all visitors of my blog, Lifeweavings: A Creative Journey, this past year, I have been honored by your visit!
Thank You…
