New Year 2018 & Back to the Studio…

What is it about the New Year that gives us Hope to accomplish new exciting things or to change directions in Life and try something different?

For me, it’s like a point in time that gives us permission to change our routines and explore or experiment with new ideas. And, often this Creative approach produces results that we never would have dreamed possible! How freeing…!

Snow Day!

So, I’m back in the studio today…straightening, organizing, and ready to begin new projects…finishing up old ones…dreaming, idea gathering, listening to music, experimenting with materials, playing around with a few ideas. Sometimes it’s difficult to find this place of concentration and flow, but it’s time…

It’s a New Year~2018!

Creativity IDEA~Autumn’s “Walk on the Beach”

I dream of walking along the beach, collecting as many different shells that catch my eye! So many in various shapes, sizes, and colors! It’s hard to limit how many I pick-up…Where did they come from? Were they ever in another country, washing in from another part of the world? Is the blue beach glass from a broken bottle thrown from a ship in Iceland?…..

It’s Autumn around here and the trees with so many different shapes of leaves, are ablaze with many wonderful colors! As I take a walk at this time of year, I find myself picking-up and collecting fall leaves in a similar manner to collecting seashells…How many different shapes/types of leaves can I find? How many sizes? And of course, the colors vary from deep reds to bright yellows! On my porch table, I lay out my daily “finds” beside last years shells from beach!

In the Studio~

It is a beautiful Autumn day here in the Studio today! I wanted to show you the art that is on the table being finished!

A few years ago, I had an exhibit of many of my art quilts for the local ArtWalk in our town. In deciding which pieces to exhibit, I almost did not include a small stylized image of a fish, called Fractured Fish #1…but at the last minute, decided to add it to the group.

To my surprise. when delivering the art for the exhibit, the host exclaimed over that particular small art quilt! At the exhibit, a few friends viewed the small art quilts displayed over the fireplace mantle and said Fractured Fish was their favorite…Then, a family member, when seeing photos of the exhibit, phoned me to say they wanted that piece! Something about the colors and subject matter made this a favorite!

I am now finishing Fractured Fish #2, which is part of my series, Sea Images…

The pattern is similar, but is in a different colorway of cool toned, bright purple batik on a background of mixed, warmer browns and yellows with blues, turquoise and a touch of rosy pink.

I am using wonderfully rich colored rayon threads to sketch and paint details and add visual depth and texture to this creation…
