5 of My FAV Artists I’ve Discovered…

It’s May 1st and we are celebrating Springtime around here! I am spending time outside on warm sunny days and energized in the studio too! 🙂

Today I want to share with you 5 of my favorite artists I’ve discovered on Instagram! Nothing is more inspiring for me than to see the things other artists share about their art, their creative process, the things that inspire them to create, and their life experience! Thank-you to all of them!

Our Past Weekend…Why We “Relay”?

A Shout-out to all the students at Virginia Tech who organized and participated in this year’s Relay For Life, 2018! Each year they do an amazing job~~Including a wonderful Survivor’s Banquet honoring cancer Survivors and their Caregivers.

We “Relay” each year in Honor and Memory of several family & friends who have been touched by cancer….

The American Cancer Society supports individuals and families dealing with the cancer experience. One of their goals is to give…

HOPE for a CURE!

In the Studio~The Materials an Artist Chooses

Today in the studio, as I worked I wondered if people ever asked, “What are the differences between creating a picture using cloth vs paints?”

Artists work using a variety of different materials~for example, a potter molds smooth clay, a sculpture chisels cool stone or textured wood, and a painter brushes on flowing paints. And, many times it is a material’s qualities that determine what type of art, or “medium”, an artist chooses to work with.

As a textile artist, I am drawn to cloth and threads…the textures as you touch it…the softness of the fabrics…

And its warmth as it is smoothed with an iron!

The background of “Field of Flowers in Toledo” is done and the “paints” for the flowers are being prepared. I’ve enjoyed my time in the studio today as I’ve quietly worked with beautifully colored and textured cloth.
