What’s Going On In the Studio?

Now that more is being accomplished in the studio, I have some “in progress” photos to share with you…

The week’s textile doodleThis design was quickly created, using scraps from the last Fractured Fish art quilts, by free-hand cutting the design and gluing it in place. These colorful Sea Images have been one of my most popular designs!

It must be the pops of abstract color reminds people of the beauty they’ve experienced snorkeling in the tropics or spending time at the beach!

Creating a “doodle” is a perfect time to try a new technique ~ such as a unique finish for raw edges. Here I glued small bits of fabric along the front, then wrapping them to the back, gluing, and adding free-motion quilting to blend into the design lines.

This was a free-form way of working that I enjoyed! A textile artist who has worked in this technique is Susan Carlson….You might like to check out her creations Here

*Every week I plan to create a textile doodle as a way to experiment and try-out new ideas & techniques. Some of these will be made available in my on-line Shop! This textile doodle has already found a home, but check back often~ It will be a great way to begin collecting some unique Textile Art!  🙂

The Art Quilt that is in progress, I have been calling “Field of Flowers at Toledo, since that is the actual location which inspired this piece!

But while creating the image, I remembered how it felt to stand at the edge of the field of wildflowers and see the old Spanish buildings of Toledo in the distance, as Ancient Breezes were blowing past me, whispering the stories of the past…So interesting, so special to experience being in this intriguing place!

Threadpainting the leaves and leaving raw-edges added more dimension…

Nature’s Winter Art

Inspirations are found at times, such as during long walks through a garden, strolls along the beach at sunrise, or sightseeing on a trip to another state, or country! ~~~

A Swim in Winter…

Recently on a sunny, slightly warmer winter’s day, I took a break and got outside~~walking by the ice covered Duck Pond! These times experiencing the wonders of nature are part of the creative process…time to “see“…to think…to imagine…to experience new things…and

Ice designs on the Lily Pond…

Waterfall ice sculpture…
Design from Motion…

…to witness the art that Nature creates with the materials on hand!

Creativity IDEA!~~Take inspiration from Nature and create something this week from what is currently around you. For example, make a meal with only the ingredients you currently have in your kitchen and pantry! Or, think of things you can do, within your current situation, to create new solutions or possibilities in your work or business…or as a parent with your children.

Can you think of other ways that Nature’s artistic flair might inspire you?   🙂
