I created this scene based on a photograph taken in Toledo, Spain. As I glanced across a field of purple wildflowers, while the old buildings sat on the hills in the distance, I could imagine the ancient breezes telling me stories of the past in this historical place…An amazing experience and the inspiration for much of my art! The latest art quilt in the series, Visions of Spain. ..
This art quilt is 23 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ in size. As I remembered this scene and the trip that led me there, details were added using free-motion quilting with colorful matte polyester and shimmery rayon threads to “paint” across the design, giving more color, line, and texture to the surface! And to create an image of that experience in a faraway land. I left the raw edges of the leaves and flowers free and turned up to create a textural, 3-D effect. It gives more dimension to the art vs a completely flat construction.
The side edges were finished with a facing turned to the back and a hanging sleeve was added for displaying. I sign and date in thread by free-hand stitching on the front of each Original Art Quilt!
